Both the festival and the parade are free for attendees.
We are keeping this an open event, which means there aren’t gates people will walk through. This provides almost unlimited exits for attendees to use if a problem should arise and is a safer exit plan overall. With that in mind, there is no central entrance point and thus no place for us to set up a bag check. The security teams we have in place are on alert constantly for any signs of trouble in the crowd, and we are confident that the Colorado Springs Police Department, and other security personnel, will respond as quickly as possible in case of an emergency.
Safety is one of our top priorities for our Pride event. We have worked closely with the Colorado Springs Police Department, the Colorado Information Analysis Center (CIAC), and other local agencies to ensure a safe event.
I highly suggest that kids, if you get lost, encourage them to find an adult in the rainbow youth square area, most likely at the stage to help them. In fact, discuss this plan before the weekend and when you arrive to pride, show them where the youth stage is. From there, we will assist that child by protocol. Parents, plan to come to the stage as well if you lose a kiddo so we can run protocol and hopefully your kiddo will come to our area first anyways. Kids will feel most safe in the youth area as we can district them with stories, entertainment, snacks, and goodies, while we work on finding family. It will feel less scary knowing they are with adults and kids who are safe and they can trust while family is being located.
Canvassing will be allowed in the designated free speech zone, which will be at west side of the venue. Canvassing by vendors outside of their space is strictly prohibited and will result in the vendors’ forfeiture of their space. Canvassing by a vendor in their space is allowed.
The Pikes Peak Pride Festival will continue in both wind and rain, but in the occurrence of severe weather (thunderstorms, hail, etc.) an announcement will be made from the Main Stage to direct attendees on where to go.
We’re always looking for more volunteers. If you have four hours to donate, love a t-shirt, and enjoy unlimited bagels (IFYKYK), then go here to sign up to volunteer for Pride weekend!
